An indefinite strike has begun at petrol pumps across the Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions of northern Bangladesh.
The Bangladesh Petrol Pump Owners Association called for the strike in protest against the eviction of various petrol pumps by the Roads and Highways Department without prior notice, causing severe disruption to public life.
The strike commenced at 8:00 AM on Wednesday (February 5).
The matter was confirmed by Md. Azizul Islam, president of the Northern Tanker Workers Union.
He stated that the Roads and Highways Department had evicted petrol pumps and blocked roads in Naogaon without prior notice.
In response, the petrol pump owners' association in Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions decided to indefinitely halt the extraction and distribution of fuel.
As a result of this protest, fuel extraction from the Baghabari Oil Depot has been suspended since Wednesday morning, leaving tanker workers unemployed.
It is worth mentioning that the Padma, Jamuna, and Meghna oil depots located at the Baghabari river port supply fuel to 16 districts in the northern region.
