In the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) election, candidates supported by the Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed United Student Alliance have won the top three positions: Md. Abu Sadik (Sadik Kayem) as Vice President (VP), S.M. Farhad as General Secretary (GS), and Mohiuddin Khan as Assistant General Secretary (AGS).
The formal and final results were announced by Chief Election Commissioner Professor Dr. Jasim Uddin at 8 a.m. on Wednesday (September 10).
According to the declared results, Md. Abu Sadik (Sadik Kayem) secured a total of 14,042 votes for the VP position, while his closest competitor, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal-backed candidate Md. Abidul Islam Khan, received 5,658 votes. Independent candidate Umama Fatima received 3,389 votes, and another independent candidate, Shamim Hossain, received 3,681 votes.
For the GS position, S.M. Farhad, from the Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed United Student Alliance, received 10,894 votes. His closest rival, Tanvir Bari Hamim from the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal-backed panel, received 5,283 votes, while Meghmallar Basu from the Protirodh Parishad received 4,949 votes.
In the AGS race, Mohiuddin Khan of the United Student Alliance received 9,501 votes. His nearest opponent, Tanvir Al Hadi Mayed from the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal-backed panel, received 4,254 votes.
The announcement of results began around 2 a.m. on Tuesday. While Sadik Kayem won by a large margin in all halls, Jagannath Hall was the exception. He received only 10 votes there, while Abidul Islam Khan secured 1,276 votes.
Voting took place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at eight centers on the university campus, with 810 booths for DUCSU and hall union elections. This year, the total number of voters was 39,874—18,959 in five female halls and 20,915 in 13 male halls.
A total of 471 candidates competed for 28 DUCSU posts. For the hall unions, 1,035 candidates ran for a total of 234 posts (13 posts in each of the 18 halls). In total, each voter cast 41 ballots.
The voting for the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) and hall union elections began at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, September 9, and continued without interruption until 4 p.m. Students voted for 28 posts in the central union and 13 posts in each hall union.
Vote turnout was as follows: Dr. Muhammad Shahidullah Hall 80.24%, Amar Ekushey Hall 83.30%, Fazlul Huq Muslim Hall 81.43%, Jagannath Hall 82.44%, Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haq Hall 84.56%, Salimullah Muslim Hall 83%, Ruqayyah Hall 65.50%, Bangladesh-Kuwait Maitree Hall 68.39%, Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall 67.08%, Sir A.F. Rahman Hall 82.50%, Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall 83.37%, Bijoy Ekattor Hall 85.02%, Surya Sen Hall 88%, Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall 75%, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall 87%, Kobi Jasimuddin Hall 86%, Kobi Sufia Kamal Hall 64%, and Shamsun Nahar Hall 63.67%.
