On the occasion of Sundarbans Day, a coalition of leading environmental and research organizations officially announced the 'Sundarbans Summit 2026', a major national platform dedicated to protecting the world’s largest mangrove forest and strengthening collective climate action.
Ahsan Rony, the Founder and Executive Director of Mission Green Bangladesh, announced that the high-profile program is scheduled to be held on April 23-25 in Khulna and the Sundarbans region.
The summit is designed to bring together a diverse group of stakeholders, including policymakers, researchers, youth leaders, environmental experts, development partners, and local communities to safeguard this critical ecosystem.
This initiative is being jointly organized by Mission Green Bangladesh (MGB), the Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Research (C3ER) at Brac University, Swapnopuri Kalyan Sangstha, and Waterkeepers Bangladesh.
The summit aims to promote essential policy dialogue, foster innovation, and encourage community-driven conservation efforts to protect the Sundarbans and the millions of people who depend on its resources for their livelihoods.
During the announcement, Ahsan Rony emphasized that the Sundarbans is a vital national asset that protects Bangladesh daily from natural disasters, asserting that the initiative is not merely an event but a movement to build a united force for its protection.
Raufa Khanum, Deputy Director of C3ER at Brac University, highlighted their long-term work on Nature-Based Solutions in coastal areas, noting that the summit will serve as a powerful platform to accelerate the movement to protect the forest's unique plant biodiversity and wildlife.
Abdullah Hassan, founder of Swapnopuri Kalyan Sangstha, further stressed that sustainable conservation is only achievable when local grassroots participation and youth engagement are prioritized.
The Sundarbans Summit 2026 is set to feature a comprehensive agenda, including high-level policy discussions, an innovation challenge specifically for the youth, conservation dialogues, and an onsite expedition into the heart of the mangrove forest.
A primary goal of the gathering is to produce the "Sundarbans Green Declaration," which will support climate-resilient innovations and enhance international attention on the forest's ecological importance.
The organizers have opened registration for the summit via an online form here and have extended an open invitation to government institutions, development agencies, and global stakeholders to join this collaborative effort for a sustainable future.
