The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported on Sunday that eight more children have died from measles or measles-like symptoms within a 24-hour period ending at 8 am.
The latest figures highlight a growing public health crisis, with 143 confirmed cases and 1,421 suspected cases of measles reported across the country during the same one-day window.
According to the DGHS, the outbreak has seen a significant surge since mid-March. Since March 15, a total of 32,028 suspected measles cases have been recorded nationwide.
The severity of the symptoms has led to the hospitalization of 21,434 individuals.
While the medical system is struggling under the influx of patients, there have been signs of recovery for many.
Of those admitted to hospitals, 17,955 patients have recovered and been discharged as of Sunday morning.
The mortality rate remains a primary concern for health officials. As of April 26, the DGHS has officially recorded:
216 suspected deaths attributed to measles or similar symptoms.
43 confirmed deaths specifically verified as measles.
Health authorities are continuing to monitor the situation as they work to contain the spread of the highly contagious viral disease.
