Three more children have tragically died with measles-like symptoms across the country in the 24 hours leading up to 8 am on Thursday, raising Bangladesh’s combined tally of confirmed and suspected measles-related fatalities to 642.
According to official data released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), these latest three deaths have been officially classified as suspected measles fatalities.
With this updated figure, the total number of suspected measles deaths nationwide has risen to 550, while the number of laboratory-confirmed measles deaths remains unchanged at 92.
The health regulator also revealed that a total of 1,110 new suspected measles cases were reported during the same 24-hour window.
This fresh influx of infections has pushed the cumulative number of suspected cases nationwide to a staggering 83,139.
Meanwhile, 132 new confirmed measles cases were recorded through laboratory testing, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed infections in the country to 10,059.
The DGHS epidemiological report further shows that since March 15, a total of 68,056 patients with suspected measles have required medical admission and been hospitalized across the country.
Out of these hospitalized individuals, 64,293 patients have successfully recovered so far.
