5 More Children Die of Suspected Measles, Tally Rises to 724 This Year

Five more children have died from measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours until 8 am on Thursday, pushing Bangladesh’s combined tally of confirmed and suspected measles-related fatalities to 724 so far this year.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has officially classified these latest five deaths as suspected measles fatalities. 

With this update, the overall number of suspected measles deaths across the country has climbed to 631, whereas the total number of laboratory-confirmed measles deaths remained stable at 93.

Epidemiological data from the health authorities showed that a total of 965 new suspected measles cases were registered during the same 24-hour period.

This intake brings the cumulative number of suspected infections nationwide to 102,993 cases. 

Concurrently, 154 new confirmed measles cases were medically recorded, lifting the total number of laboratory-confirmed infections in the country to 12,286.

The DGHS data further revealed that since March 15, a total of 86,411 patients with suspected measles have been admitted to various hospitals across the country.

Out of these hospitalised individuals, 82,759 patients have successfully recovered and been discharged.
