The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has accused Israel of causing widespread destruction in northern Gaza, displacing and killing Palestinians in the process. According to a report by Al Jazeera, Israeli military operations have left the region in ruins.

The UN expressed concern for civilians in areas like Jabalia, Beit Hanoun, and Beit Lahia, where recent Israeli airstrikes have killed or left missing over 87 Palestinians. Entire residential blocks have been reduced to rubble by the attacks.

Meanwhile, Lebanon’s health ministry reported that at least 16 people were killed in Israeli strikes on Saturday. Following the attacks, around 12 Israeli missiles struck southern suburbs of Beirut. The UN also confirmed that an Israeli bulldozer destroyed a peacekeeping observation tower in southern Lebanon, marking the latest assault on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

The humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire, with over 42,603 Palestinians killed and nearly 99,795 injured over the past year. The crisis escalated on October 7 last year, when Hamas launched a surprise attack across the Israeli border, killing at least 1,139 Israelis and kidnapping over 200 people.

The UN has repeatedly called for opening additional aid routes into Gaza. In a recent statement, the organization expressed frustration, saying it is "unable to operate at the necessary scale" to provide humanitarian relief. The UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) added that the limited and unreliable crossing points available are insufficient for their operations.

Israel, however, has defended its actions, stating that it is targeting Hamas infrastructure in northern Gaza and denying any interference with humanitarian aid.
