Police are expected to submit the chargesheet on Sunday in the case filed over the horrific rape and murder of eight-year-old Ramisa in the capital’s Pallabi area, following the successful completion of the forensic DNA examination.
"The DNA examination process had been completed and the charge sheet could be submitted on Sunday," the case's Investigation Officer (IO), Sub-Inspector Ohedujjaman Bhuoyan Nipun of Pallabi Police Station, confirmed over the phone today.
He added that he is currently preparing the final chargesheet while senior police officials review the collected evidence and investigative reports, including the vital DNA findings.
According to police sources, the primary accused was arrested on May 20 and has already given a formal confessional statement before the court under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Junaid recorded the judicial statement before ordering the accused to be sent to jail.
Investigators revealed that the accused confessed to luring the child into a room before committing the assault and subsequent murder.
Police further noted that the perpetrator attempted to systematically destroy all physical evidence at the crime scene before fleeing.
During interrogation and within his official confession, the accused reportedly admitted to being under the influence of the illicit drug yaba at the time of the incident.
Investigators also confirmed that no prior enmity or disputes were found between the accused and the victim’s family.
The legal proceedings began when the victim’s father, Abdul Hannan Molla, filed the initial case with Pallabi Police Station on May 20.
On that same day, law enforcement produced the accused alongside his wife before the court, submitting separate petitions to advance the investigation.
The brutal killing of the young girl has sparked widespread public outrage across Bangladesh, with local rights groups and international organizations issuing strong demands for swift justice and robust state protections for children.
