General students of Dhaka University (DU) held a protest march at midnight demanding a ban on the Awami League.
The procession started from the hall area around 1:30 AM on Thursday (March 20th) and, after circling various roads on the campus, ended at the Raju Sculpture against terrorism at the university.
During this time, students chanted slogans like, "Catch, catch, don't let go once caught," "Ban the Awami League, it must be done," "We will skin the Awami League," and "We want the Awami League banned, no delays will be tolerated," while lighting fires and sitting in a circle.
Mussaddique Ali Ibne Mohammad, a student of the university's Bengali department, said, "The Awami League, which has killed about two thousand people and injured more than thirty thousand, has no right to do politics anymore. This party must be banned immediately, no delays of any kind will be tolerated."
Addressing the Chief Advisor, student AB Zubair said, "The people will not accept any election until the Awami League is banned."
It is to be noted that in a meeting with Comfort Ero, President and Chief Executive of the International Crisis Group, on Thursday, Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus said, "The government has no plans to ban the Awami League. Elections will be held on schedule as per the previous plan."
