Shakib Khan Joins BPL Draft

For the first time, Dhallywood superstar Shakib Khan's cosmetics brand Remark-Harlan has acquired a team in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). He will co-own the Dhaka Capitals franchise in the upcoming season.
The buzz around BPL is already building, with the players' draft taking place today, Monday, at a five-star hotel in Dhaka. Shakib Khan made an appearance at the event alongside his franchise, marking his debut in team management at the BPL draft.
Speaking about his involvement, Shakib said, “We received overwhelming responses from cricket fans at home and abroad in selecting our team’s name. We are excited and have finalized the name as Dhaka Capitals, considering everyone's feedback.”
“I believe Dhaka Capitals will achieve its desired success with your love and support,” he added.
Globally popular leagues like the Indian Premier League (IPL) have seen celebrities such as Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Juhi Chawla, and Shilpa Shetty own franchises. With Shakib Khan becoming the first Bangladeshi actor to purchase a BPL team, a new chapter begins in the league’s history.
In the 11th edition of BPL 2025, the league will feature seven teams, including new franchises Dhaka Capitals, Chattogram Kings, and Durbar Rajshahi. While Chattogram Kings had previously participated, Dhaka and Rajshahi are making their debut. As new teams, they haven't retained any players from past seasons.

Shakib Joins Team in India
Shakib Al Hasan has joined the Bangladesh team in India for the two-match Test series against India, after leaving the country on September 15. The star cricketer was not with the team initially, as he was expected to travel directly from England to India. Despite his teammates practicing over the past two days, Shakib was absent, leading to questions about when he would join the squad.
However, on the night of September 17, the top cricketer confirmed his arrival with the team, as confirmed by team manager Nafis Iqbal, who is with the team in India.
While his teammates returned home after the Pakistan series, Shakib’s return was delayed due to uncertainties surrounding the political situation in Bangladesh, including the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government and related allegations.
To prepare for the series against India, Shakib flew directly to England from Pakistan. After 13 years, he signed up for county cricket to get ready for the red-ball series. He has been impressive, taking 9 wickets in his first match for Surrey, signaling his readiness to perform well against India. The focus now shifts to how he will perform on the pitch.
Bangladesh vs India Test: Hasan Joins Elite List With His Fifer
Hasan Mahmud got his moment of celebration when he dismissed Bumrah in the 12th over of day two to get his second five-wicket haul, ending the Indian innings on 376.
The 24-year-old Bangladeshi pacer Hasan Mahmud enjoyed a memorable outing during the first Test between India and Bangladesh as he picked his second fifer in his fourth Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on September 20.
In what looked like a pitch suited for the pacers at the start of day one, it was Hasan who single-handedly took out the Indian top order in the first session.
While Rohit Sharma was sent back to the pavilion for just 6 runs with a brilliant out-swinging delivery, Hasan then went on to dismiss Rohit's opening partner, Shubman Gill, for an 8-ball duck, with the ball edging his bat and going into the gloves of Litton Das.
Hasan's third wicket was Virat Kohli, who also departed early after scoring just 6 runs.
Mahmud kept the pressure on Jaiswal and Pant after lunch as well and finally got his fourth wicket of the day in the 26th over. Hasan removed Rishabh Pant at a time when both batters were looking settled. The pacer ended a 62-run fourth-wicket partnership to keep the Bangla Tigers in the game.
However, the pacer had to wait to complete his fifer as Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja refused to give Bangladesh any wickets in the final session. Hasan finally got his moment of celebration when he dismissed Bumrah in the 12th over of day two to get his second five-wicket haul, ending the Indian innings on 376.
With his impressive bowling performance against India, Hasan Mahmud now holds the record for the joint second-highest number of fifers by a Bangladeshi pacer, along with Robiul Islam, with two five-wicket hauls each. Shahadat Hossain, with four fifers, is the only bowler ahead of him.

New Zealand All Out for 340 in Sri Lanka Test
New Zealand were bowled out for 340 in their first innings in the first Test against Sri Lanka on Friday in Galle to take a slender 35-run lead.
The tourists resumed day three on 255-4 but Sri Lanka's spinners came to the fore, with Prabath Jayasuriya taking 4-136 including the wicket of opener Tom Latham for 70.
In reply at lunch Friday, Sri Lanka was 32 for one on the third day, trailing New Zealand by three runs with nine wickets in hand.
Left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya, who was erratic with his line and length on Day 2, found some rhythm Friday and finished with four wickets. He was well backed up by off-spinner Ramesh Mendis, who finished with three wickets as New Zealand was bowled out for 340 in its first innings.
Daryl Mitchell scored a half-century before being run out while Glenn Philips provided some extra entertainment, hitting 49 off 48 balls. Philips hit five sixes, with some of them going out of the ground.
Sri Lanka had a half-hour to negotiate before lunch and the hosts lost Pathum Nissanka in that period when he was superbly caught in the slips by Tim Southee as William O’Rourke claimed his sixth wicket in the match. The tall fast bowler had claimed a five-wicket haul in the first innings.
Bangladesh vs India / Bangladesh Dismissed for 149 in Its First Innings
Bangladesh put in a disappointing batting performance to be all out for 149 in its first innings of the first cricket Test against India at MA Chidambaram Stadium today.
Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah wreaked havoc on Bangladesh, claiming 4-50. His fellow pacers Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep and left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets apiece to further dismantle Bangladesh on a spicy pitch.
Shakib Al Hasan made a team-high 32 while Mehidy Hasan Miraz was not out on 27. Liton Das scored 22 and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto added 20.
India which was bowled out for 376, finally took a 227-run lead in the first innings.
The hosts resumed the day on 339-6 but lost the last four wickets for just only 37 runs in the morning session of Day 2.
Pacer Hasan Mahmud snared 5-83, which was his second consecutive five-for in Test cricket. Taskin Ahmed finished with 3-55.

Bangladesh vs India Test Series / Records That Tigers Have to Break to Beat India
India set a big target of 515 runs to Bangladesh in the Chennai Test. Bangladesh have 10 wickets and two and a half days to chase this run. If there is time, Bangladesh will have to break the history of Test cricket and all the old records to win.
However, it is impossible to score 515 runs in the fourth innings. The history of test cricket says this. So far, West Indies has the match-winning record of 414 runs in the fourth innings. Bangladesh's target is 100 runs more.

Bangladesh is involved in the history of the fifth test match. The Tigers set West Indies a target of 395 runs in Chattogram Test in 2021. West Indies won with 3 wickets in hand.
One of the heroes of that victory was Kyle Mayers. This left-handed batsman gave victory to the team by playing an unbeaten innings of 210 runs.

Chennai Test: Bangladesh 4 down at stumps on Day 3
Bangladesh was reeling on 158 for 4 in their mammoth chase of 515 when bad light stopped play on day three of the opening Test in Chennai on Saturday.
India declared their second innings at 287 for 4 riding on twin hundreds from Rishabh Pant (109) and Shubman Gill (119) with an overall lead of 514.
In reply, Ravichandran Ashwin continued his dream form following up on his first innings hundred with figures of 3 for 63 while skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto remained unbeaten on 51.

Tabith Awal Announces BFF Presidency Bid
Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) elections will be held on October 26. The current president Kazi Salahuddin has already announced that he will not participate in the election this time. After that, Tarfder Ruhul Amin announced the election for the post of president. Tabith Awal, the former vice-president of BFF, has announced to fight with him in this election.
On Monday (September 23), Tabith held a press conference at a five-star hotel in the capital and announced his candidacy for the post of president in the upcoming BFF elections.
Tabith Awal said, "For so long there was speculation whether I would be elected to BFF president or not. Yes, I would choose the BFF election. I am ready to run for the post of president in the upcoming BFF elections. I’m confident in my chances."
He also said, "We do not want to say what steps we will take if we win the election. First, we can announce the schedule by submitting the nomination paper and then we can tell the rest."
Touching on the recent FIFA corruption scandal that tarnished BFF's reputation, Tabith acknowledged, "Football is still alive in this country, with many kids playing the sport. However, there are significant gaps in BFF's capabilities. The national team's performance hasn't been up to par, and our branding has suffered. There is much work to be done in these areas."
Incidentally, Tabith is going to fight for the post of president for the first time. Before that, he became the vice president of BFF by contesting the 2012 and 2016 elections as an independent contestant. But this organizer lost in the last election of 2020.
