Dhallywood superstar Shakib Khan took ownership of the Dhaka Capitals ahead of this year's Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), igniting hopes of a long-awaited championship for the capital's cricket fans. However, his team fell short of expectations, failing to make a deep run in the tournament. Shakib, who had attended the team’s opening match only to witness a disappointing defeat, returned to Mirpur for their final game of the season.
After a series of losses, Dhaka Capitals were eliminated from playoff contention, managing only three wins in eleven matches. On Saturday (February 1), the team played its last game against Khulna Tigers, with Shakib Khan present in the owner's seating area to witness the match.
Winning the toss, Dhaka chose to bat first. Openers Liton Kumar Das and Tanzid Tamim provided a promising start, but Liton fell early, scoring 10 runs off 10 balls. Habibur Rahman also struggled, managing just 3 runs from 8 balls.
Tamim, however, played aggressively and guided Dhaka to 54 runs in the powerplay. He reached his half-century in just 28 balls, keeping the momentum alive. But after the quick dismissals of Farmanullah (5) and Thisara (0), Tamim lost his rhythm and departed for 58 runs off 37 balls, triggering a batting collapse.
In the latter stages, Sabbir Rahman and Riaz Hassan attempted to steady the innings. Riaz contributed 5 runs, while Sabbir added 20 off 17 balls before getting out. Mehedi Rana's late 13-run knock helped Dhaka Capitals post a modest total of 123 runs for 9 wickets.
Despite a season filled with disappointments, Shakib Khan stood by his team until the very end, showing unwavering support for the Dhaka Capitals.
