His lone goal secured victory in the first leg, and in the second leg, Lionel Messi found the net again. On Tuesday night, the Messi-Suárez duo led Inter Miami to a 3-1 win over CF Sporting Kansas City.
With a 4-1 aggregate score, Inter Miami has advanced to the Round of 16 in the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
At Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Messi put his team ahead in the 19th minute with a stunning goal. He first played a through pass to Luis Suárez, then controlled Suárez’s return pass on his chest before striking a brilliant shot into the net.
Messi also played a key role in the second goal. The Argentine magician delivered a precise pass to Jordi Alba, who set up Alende to score in the 45th minute.
Just two minutes later, Jacob Davis of Kansas City made a costly mistake, allowing Suárez to take a powerful shot that beat goalkeeper Pulskamp and found the net.
Before kickoff at Chase Stadium, the FIFA Club World Cup trophy was displayed, ahead of the tournament’s start in June. This 32-team competition will feature Inter Miami alongside European giants Real Madrid, Manchester City, and other top clubs.
