In an emergency press conference held on Tuesday at the Prof Abdul Matin Chowdhury Virtual Classroom, Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan announced his readiness to step down from his position.
The VC expressed his intention to allow the newly elected government to restructure the university administration as it sees fit following the upcoming national polls.
Addressing the media at 3 pm, Professor Niaz reflected on his tenure, noting that he had assumed the role during a period of national emergency and had strived to fulfill his duties effectively.
Despite his willingness to depart, he indicated a flexibility to remain briefly if required to prevent an administrative crisis.
“At this stage, I want to step down so that the elected political government can organise the administration in its own way. However, if stakeholders want me to stay for the sake of continuity and to reduce any vacuum, I will consider it,” he stated.
Professor Niaz clarified that he has not yet submitted a formal resignation letter.
He emphasized his commitment to maintaining administrative stability during the transition period, stating that he would continue his duties until the elected government officially takes office and pledged to extend full cooperation to the incoming administration.
