Mamata Urges TMC Workers to Stand Firm as BJP Gains Early Lead

Monday, 04 May 2026 , 03:47 PM

Amid a surge in early election trends favoring the BJP in West Bengal, Trinamool Congress (TMC) Chairperson Mamata Banerjee has issued a rallying cry to her party candidates and counting agents, urging them not to abandon their posts.

Speaking via a video message on Monday afternoon, the TMC chief emphasized that the counting process is still in its infancy and cautioned against reacting prematurely to initial figures.

Despite the BJP showing a strong performance in the opening rounds, Banerjee reassured her supporters that the party maintains a lead in 170 seats.

She specifically directed all TMC representatives to remain stationed at the counting venues, stressing that the final results will only materialize as the later stages of the process unfold.

"I appeal to everyone that neither TMC candidates nor counting agents should abandon counting centres," she stated, aiming to maintain morale among the rank and file.

Banerjee’s message serves as a strategic move to prevent any dip in vigilance during the critical final hours of tallying.

By encouraging workers to "not lose hope" and stay optimistic, the West Bengal Chief Minister is banking on a potential shift in momentum as the count progresses through the remaining rounds.
