Govt to bear Medical expenses of injured in student movement

The government will bear all the medical expenses including free treatment in government hospital of the victims of anti-discrimination student movement.

The Health Services Department of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare announced this information in a circular on Saturday (August 17).

The notification also said that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has already formed a committee to inquire about the casualties in the anti-discrimination student movement. The committee will meet on Sunday (August 18) to determine the course of action.

Apart from this, private hospitals were requested not to accept the medical bills of the injured in the agitation. If necessary, the government will bear the medical expenses of the injured protesters undergoing treatment in private hospitals, according to press release.

Law and order forces, including the police, resorted to indiscriminate firing to suppress the students' agitation for quota reforms in government jobs. Rubber bullets and bullets were fired.

Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country on August 5 in a mass uprising by the students. August 8, Dr Muhammad Yunus took over the duty as the head of the interim government. 21 advisers are working in the interim government.
