The Bangladesh Army has reaffirmed its commitment to working in close coordination with the government, emphasising that there is no rift between the two institutions.
Brigadier General M Nazim-ud-Daula, Director of Military Operations, told a press conference at Army Headquarters that the army is operating in full alignment with government directives.
"We are working together to support one another. There is no scope for misinterpretation," he said, addressing questions about the nature of civil-military relations.
Dispelling media speculations about differences between the armed forces and the interim government, Brig Gen Daula stated: "The narrative of a significant divide is baseless. The army has always worked with the government and under its instructions."
He emphasised mutual understanding and cooperation, stating, "There is no question of the army and the government standing against each other. We are united and will remain so in the future."
Speaking on sensitive national issues, he said the army prioritises the country's sovereignty and security above all else. "The corridor issue is extremely sensitive. For us, national interest comes first. There will be no compromise on independence, security, or sovereignty," he added.
Earlier in the briefing, Colonel M Shafiqul Islam, Colonel Staff of the same directorate, provided an overview of recent army operations. In the past 40 days, troops have seized 241 illegal arms, 709 rounds of ammunition, and arrested 1,969 crime suspects.
Since the nationwide anti-crime crackdown began in August last year, the army has recovered 9,611 illegal weapons, 285,761 rounds of ammunition, and apprehended 14,266 suspects, according to the colonel.
He reiterated the army's firm stance against mob violence and threats to public safety, noting that law and order had either remained stable or improved in several regions.
"The Bangladesh Army is committed to protecting the nation's sovereignty and independence," Col Islam said, adding that forces have also been deployed to maintain communal harmony and secure diplomatic zones.
With Eid-ul-Azha approaching, troops will intensify vigilance against extortion in cattle markets, while continuing their presence in industrial areas. Additionally, they will assist in traffic management to ensure a smooth and safe journey for holiday travelers.
