Adviser for Foreign Affairs, Md. Touhid Hossain, received the Letter of Credence from Alberto Bocanegra Vidal, Head of Delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) to Bangladesh, during a formal meeting at the Ministry today.

Welcoming the IFRC Head of Delegation, the Adviser assured him of the Government's full support in carrying out his responsibilities.

During the meeting, Alberto Bocanegra Vidal briefed the Adviser on IFRC's key initiatives in Bangladesh, highlighting their early warning systems, contributions during the recent floods, and efforts to assist both the Rohingya refugees and the host communities.

The Adviser commended the valuable contributions of IFRC, ICRC, and BDRCS, particularly their work during the COVID-19 pandemic and their timely response to flood relief efforts. He emphasized the Government's ongoing support to flood-affected citizens and expressed openness to voluntary assistance from international partners.

Touching on the Rohingya crisis, the Adviser voiced deep concern over the long-standing challenges Bangladesh faces, including security, human trafficking, environmental impact, and socio-economic strain due to hosting the Rohingya for more than seven years. He reiterated the need for the Rohingya's repatriation to Myanmar and urged the international community to lend its support.
