Ex-MP Fazle Karim Detained While Rushing to India
Former Member of Parliament from Chattogram-6 Constituency ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury was arrested from Akhaura border in Brahmanbaria while illegally fleeing to India. His two accomplices were arrested too.
The other detainees are Md. Hannan Molla, a former union parishad member from Nurpur, Akhaura, and Md. Naeem Chowdhury, a resident of Akhaura and a member of a human trafficking gang.
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested them.
BGB public relations officer Shariful Islam confirmed this on Thursday (September 12) morning.
He said that while fleeing to India illegally, Fazle Karim Chowdhury and his two accomplices were arrested from Gazir Bazar in Akhaura.
"The process of transferring the arrested individuals to Akhaura police station is underway," Shariful further noted.
Fazle Karim Chowdhury has been in hiding since the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government in a student uprising on August 5. Several cases have already been filed against him in Chattogram and Raozan.
It should be noted that ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury was elected as a member of parliament for five consecutive times under the Awami League nomination since 2001.
However, he lost his position as a member of parliament when President Mohammed Sahabuddin dissolved the national parliament after the mass coup on August 5.
