Tanjim Ahmad Sohel Taj, son of the first Prime Minister of independent Bangladesh, Tajuddin Ahmad, and former State Minister of Home Affairs, commented that the movement of 2024 and the Great Liberation War of 1971 are tied in the same formula.

He made this comment in front of the journalists at Hotel Intercontinental Junction before the march on the occasion of Jail Killing Day on Sunday (November 3) afternoon before handing over the memorandum of three-point demand to the Chief Advisor.

Sohel Taj said that the contribution-sacrifice of the four national leaders in the great liberation war should be highlighted in the book. At the same time, the movement of 24 should also be highlighted.

He said that the Great War of Liberation was not led by a single leader. After Sheikh Mujib was in jail, the contribution of the four national leaders was important.

Regarding the rule of the Awami League, Sohel Taj said that the party that led the liberation war did not portray the history of the liberation war correctly. The liberation war was fought with collective efforts. Not led by a single person. But the party made the liberation war a history for itself. The complete history of the Liberation War was not presented during the Awami League period.

Sohel Taj said, 49 years have passed since Jail Killing Day. However, the four heroes of the nation, under whose leadership the great liberation war was successfully conducted, under whose leadership we got an independent-sovereign state called Bangladesh, have not been recognized by the state. This cannot be accepted.

He said that the history of the 24th People's Uprising and Liberation War should be highlighted and preserved.

Sohail Taj marched from the Hotel Intercontinental intersection to the Chief Advisor and handed over a memorandum containing three-point demands. The three points are-

  • Since the first government of Bangladesh was formed through the declaration of independence on 10 April 1971, Bangladesh was born as an independent-sovereign state (republic), so this day is declared as 'Republic Day'.
  • Jail Killings Day on November 3 should be declared as a national day of mourning and observed nationally.
  • The names, contributions, and biographies of all the civil and military organizers, directors, immortal martyrs, and brave freedom fighters including the four national leaders, the accurate and complete history of the liberation war must be included in the textbooks and syllabus of all levels with due dignity and importance.
