Army Chief Pledges a Modern, Disciplined Military Force
Chief of Army Staff General Waqar-uz-Zaman expressed his commitment to transforming the Bangladesh Army into a trained, disciplined, and modern force equipped with advanced weaponry.
The remarks were made on Tuesday, December 3, during the President’s Parade held at the parade ground of the Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA) in Bhatiary, Chattogram. The event marked the commissioning of officer cadets from the 87th BMA Long Course and the 59th BMA Special Course.
As the chief guest, General Waqar-uz-Zaman inspected the parade and received the salute, while also distributing awards to outstanding cadets.
Addressing the graduating cadets, the Army Chief emphasized the sacred duty entrusted to them to safeguard the country’s independence and sovereignty upon taking their oath.
He reiterated his vision of developing the Army into a well-trained, disciplined, and modern military force. He also extended his heartfelt thanks to the commandant of the academy, as well as the officers, JCOs, NCOs, soldiers, and civilian staff involved in organizing the impressive parade.
The parade marked the commissioning of 213 officer cadets from the 87th Long Course, 14 officer cadets, and 4 trainee officers from the 59th Special Course. Among the newly commissioned officers in the Bangladesh Army, there are 207 men and 24 women.
Battalion Senior Under Officer Abdullah Al Arafat of the 87th BMA Long Course was awarded the prestigious Sword of Honour for being the best cadet, as well as the Army Chief Gold Medal for excellence in military training.
After taking their oath to protect the nation's independence and sovereignty, the cadets were officially adorned with their rank badges by their parents and guests.
Earlier, General Waqar-uz-Zaman was welcomed to the parade ground by the General Officer Commanding of Army Training and Doctrine Command, the General Officer Commanding of the 24th Infantry Division, the Area Commander of Chattogram Area, and the Commandant of the Bangladesh Military Academy.
The colorful ceremony was attended by the commandant of the Sri Lankan Military Academy as a representative of a friendly nation, along with senior military and civilian officials from both home and abroad, parents of the newly commissioned officers, and members of the media.
