Advisor Hasan Arif Laid to Eternal Rest
Advisor to the Interim Government for Land, Aviation, and Tourism, A.F. Hasan Arif, was laid to eternal rest at the Martyred Intellectuals Graveyard in Mirpur, Dhaka. The burial took place on Monday (December 23) at 10:30 AM.
Earlier, on Sunday (December 22) evening, Mahbubur Rahman Tuhin, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, informed the media that Hasan Arif would be buried at the Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals Graveyard on Monday morning at 10 AM. On the same day, the nation observed a state mourning in honor of the late advisor.
A notification regarding the state mourning was issued on Sunday (December 22) by the Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Sheikh Abdur Rashid.
The notification stated that the government decided to observe state mourning on Monday (December 23) following the demise of A.F. Hasan Arif, Advisor to the Interim Government for the Ministry of Land and the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism.
The notification further mentioned that on this occasion, the national flag would be flown at half-mast on all government, semi-government, autonomous institutions, educational institutions, and government and private buildings across Bangladesh, as well as in all Bangladeshi missions abroad.
Additionally, special prayers were held in mosques across Bangladesh on Monday for the forgiveness of the departed soul. Other religious institutions also organized prayers for his eternal peace.
Background
On Friday (December 20), at 3:10 PM, Advisor A.F. Hasan Arif passed away due to cardiac arrest at the age of 83.
Hasan Arif took his oath as an advisor to the Interim Government on August 8. During the caretaker government led by Fakhruddin Ahmed, he served as an advisor to the Ministries of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, as well as the Ministries of Land and Religious Affairs. From 2001 to April 28, 2005, he also served as the Attorney General of Bangladesh.
Early Life and Career
Born on July 10, 1941, in Kolkata, Hasan Arif completed his secondary and higher secondary education at St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata. He later earned his bachelor’s and LLB degrees from the University of Calcutta.
In 1967, he was enrolled as a lawyer at the Kolkata High Court. Subsequently, he moved to Dhaka and began practicing at the Bangladesh High Court, gaining enrollment as a High Court lawyer in 1970.
