Matiur Rahman, a former member of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), and his wife, former Upazila Chairman Laila Kaniz, have been arrested by a team from the Detective Branch (DB) of the police on charges of amassing illegal wealth and concealing asset information, following their involvement in the widely discussed 'goat incident.'

They were apprehended late Tuesday night (January 14) in the Bashundhara area of the capital.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Talebur Rahman of the Media and Public Relations Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) confirmed the arrest but could not provide specific details regarding the case under which the couple was detained.

Notably, the couple faces multiple cases. Most recently, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed three cases against them. These cases allege that Matiur Rahman, his first wife Laila Kaniz, and their children acquired illegal assets worth 1.24 billion BDT and concealed information about these assets.
