Australia has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Bangladesh's interim government and its ongoing reform initiatives.

Acting Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Nardia Simpson conveyed this assurance during a farewell meeting with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna.

During the discussion, Simpson reflected on the transformative events of July and August, describing them as significant moments in Bangladesh’s history. The Chief Adviser and the envoy also explored topics of mutual interest, emphasizing the strong bilateral ties between the two nations.

"It has been an emotional journey. We’ve shared this experience with the people of Bangladesh," Simpson remarked, praising the Bangladeshi people as “incredibly generous and hospitable.” She described her four-year tenure in the country as a wonderful experience.

Professor Yunus extended an invitation to the envoy to attend the events marking the first anniversary of the July uprising this August. He mentioned that the government would also invite other diplomats who were stationed in Bangladesh during the student-led revolution.

The Chief Adviser discussed plans for a consensus-building commission he would lead, aimed at fostering dialogue with political parties based on recommendations from major reform commissions.

Lamiya Morshed, the Principal Coordinator of SDG Affairs, also attended the meeting.
