Students of Government Titumir College, located in Mohakhali, Dhaka, have launched a 'Shutdown Titumir' campaign, demanding the college's conversion into a university.

Starting today (January 28), students have suspended all classes and exams to press their demands.

The students demand that within 48 hours, Government Titumir College must be converted into a university and an administrative framework for the university must be established. This includes appointing a Vice-Chancellor and a Pro-Vice-Chancellor to set up the administrative structure.

The protesting students have warned that if their demands are not met by Thursday (January 30), they will escalate their movement by blocking roads and railways in Mohakhali.

The students stated that following their previous protests, the affiliation of seven colleges under Dhaka University was revoked, leaving the colleges without any governing authority. However, they remain firm in their demand to transform Titumir College into a university. If their demands are not fulfilled, they will proceed with the road and railway blockade in Mohakhali.

Notably, during a similar protest on January 7, students symbolically renamed the institution "Titumir University" by hanging a banner at its main gate. If their current demands remain unmet, the students have vowed to intensify their protests through the planned blockades.
