Spirit of Amar Ekushey Helps Wage July Uprising: CA
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today emphasized that the spirit of Amar Ekushey inspired the people of Bangladesh to rise in the historic July uprising, paving the way for a 'New Bangladesh.'
Speaking at the inaugural session of the Amar Ekushey Book Fair, Prof. Yunus said, "The explosive power behind the July uprising was deeply rooted in the commitment and sacrifice of Barkat, Salam, Rafiq, and Jabbar. After half a century, this spirit erupted into a mass movement, transforming the nation."
He stated that this movement instilled a collective determination among the country’s 170 million people to build a new future. "Through this ceremony of Amar Ekushey, we reaffirm our commitment to this cause," he added.
Recalling the historic events of August 5 last year, he noted that the student-led mass uprising toppled a 16-year autocratic regime, astonishing the world with its unprecedented sacrifices. "This victory has brought forth a renewed pledge to rebuild Bangladesh," he remarked.
Prof. Yunus paid tribute to the brave students, workers, and citizens who laid down their lives or were injured during the July uprising. He noted that this year's book fair holds special significance as it reflects that movement's legacy, with the theme: "The July Uprising: Rebuilding a New Bangladesh."
Highlighting the essence of Amar Ekushey, he stated, "Ekushey signifies embracing our identity and engaging in constant struggle. It has led us to new horizons." He further emphasized that the movement has united the nation, giving it the courage to rebuild a country devastated in multiple dimensions.
"Our youth stepped forward with unwavering determination, turning the impossible into reality. They expressed their dreams, aspirations, and demands by painting them onto the city walls, transforming them into historical records," he said.
Congratulating the organizers for beautifully showcasing these murals at the book fair's gates, Prof. Yunus praised Bangla Academy for making the fair an integral part of national life.
He also acknowledged the contributions of Bangladeshi expatriates and migrant workers, stating, "Our people are achieving remarkable success worldwide. On this Ekushey, we honour them all, for they celebrate this day with love for their homeland, keeping their children connected to our shared heritage."
