Zaima Rahman, daughter of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, completed the necessary procedures and formalities for voter registration and National Identity Card (NID) on Saturday.
Accompanied by her mother Dr Zubaida Rahman, she arrived at the Election Training Institute (ETI), also known as National Identity Wing office, in the capital's Agargaon area at approximately 12:26 pm.
The mother and daughter spent about twenty minutes fulfilling the administrative requirements, providing biometric data, and submitting all essential documentation before departing at 12:45 pm, shortly before the arrival of Tarique Rahman at the same venue.
According to the Director General of the Election Commission’s NID Wing, ASM Humayun Kabir, both Zaima and her father have now successfully finalized their national identity and voter registration processes while noting that Dr Zubaida Rahman was already an enrolled voter in the country.
BNP sources indicate that the family had previously completed the preliminary online registration forms.
They are expected to be registered as voters within the Dhaka-17 constituency, specifically under Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Ward No. 19, using their Gulshan-2 residential address.
This move marks a significant step in the family’s reintegration into the country’s civic and political framework following their return to Bangladesh on Thursday morning after nearly 17 years abroad.
For Zaima Rahman, a barrister by profession, this visit represents her first time back on home soil since her family departed for the United Kingdom in September 2008, a journey that mirrors her father’s long-awaited homecoming.
