Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has initiated a series of high-priority directives aimed at overhaulng Dhaka’s public transport and urban landscape, including the launch of a dedicated city bus service for women.
In a meeting held at the Bangladesh Secretariat this morning, the Prime Minister directed Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam to introduce the separate bus service to ensure safer and more comfortable commuting for women in the capital.
The Premier also took a detailed update on the current state of road transport before providing further strategic instructions to the ministry.
To address the city's chronic gridlock, the Prime Minister held a specialized consultative meeting with a team of experts led by Professor Dr. Md. Shamsul Hoque of BUET’s Civil Engineering Department.
The discussions focused on restructuring the existing traffic management system to ease congestion.
According to Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman, the Prime Minister arrived at the Secretariat from his Gulshan residence at 9:13 am to lead these sessions, seeking technical opinions on long-term infrastructure solutions.
The Prime Minister’s busy schedule also included architectural and developmental reviews.
He consulted with architects and Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher regarding the renovation and development of the graves of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
The Premier specifically directed that the renovation work at the grave of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman be completed before the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.
In separate sessions, the Prime Minister met with Liberation War Affairs Minister Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, and other state ministers to discuss departmental progress.
These coordinated meetings signal a push by the administration to tackle both immediate public service needs and significant national heritage projects simultaneously.
