Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held a high-level telephone conversation on Thursday to discuss the deepening security crisis in the Middle East.
As the conflict between the US-Israel coalition and Iran enters its second week, both leaders emphasized the urgent need for an immediate halt to military escalation, warning of the dire implications for both regional and global stability.
During the one-on-one conversation, Prime Minister Rahman expressed Bangladesh’s firm solidarity with the United Arab Emirates and other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries following the series of Iranian missile and drone strikes targeting the region.
The UAE President thanked the Prime Minister for his call and for Bangladesh’s supportive stance during this volatile period.
The two leaders underscored the necessity of prioritizing dialogue and diplomatic efforts to address existing tensions and reach a peaceful resolution.
"Both sides underscored the need for an immediate halt to the military escalation in the region and address its serious implications for regional and global security," noted Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Saleh Shibly.
Beyond regional security, the conversation also highlighted strong bilateral cooperation. Prime Minister Rahman expressed his "sincere thanks" to the UAE leadership for their ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of the Bangladeshi expatriate community living in the UAE.
He extended his deep gratitude to Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation, as well as the UAE Ambassador and embassy staff in Dhaka, for their logistical support and assistance during the evacuation and crisis management phase.
Looking toward the future of bilateral relations, Prime Minister Rahman extended a formal invitation to President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to visit Bangladesh. The UAE President accepted the invitation, indicating his intention to visit the country in the near future.
