Import and export activities at the Burimari Land Port in Lalmonirhat’s Patgram upazila are set to remain suspended for 11 consecutive days starting tomorrow (March 17).
The closure, which encompasses the upcoming observances of Shab-e-Qadr, Eid-ul-Fitr, and Independence Day, will continue through March 27, with commercial operations scheduled to resume on March 28.
The decision was formalized through a letter signed by ASM Niaz Nahid, General Secretary of the Burimari Customs Clearing and Forwarding (C&F) Agents Association.
The association confirmed that the decision was finalized following consultations with local traders and stakeholders.
Official notifications regarding the temporary suspension have been disseminated to all relevant authorities on both sides of the border, including the Burimari Land Customs Station, the Land Port Authority, the district administration, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and their counterparts in India—the Changrabandha Customs and the Border Security Force (BSF).
Bhutanese customs authorities, as well as various transport and labor organizations, have also been informed.
Faruk Hossain, President of the Burimari C&F Agents Association, stated, "Commercial operations will remain closed for 11 days during Shab-e-Qadr, Eid-ul-Fitr, and Independence Day. All activities will resume as usual from March 28."
While trade will be halted, the port will remain open for travelers.
Sub-Inspector Saifur Rahman, officer-in-charge of the Burimari Land Port Police Immigration Post, confirmed that cross-border passenger movement will continue without disruption, and individuals holding valid passports and visas will be permitted to cross the border as usual.
Regarding the port’s internal operations, Assistant Director (Traffic) of the Burimari Land Port Authority, Mahmudul Hasan, noted that port activities typically remain inactive whenever traders suspend their operations.
However, Muhammad Mohi Uddin, Deputy Commissioner of the Burimari Land Customs Station, indicated that internal customs functions will continue on a limited scale throughout the holiday period.
