Two newly elected Members of Parliament from the Sherpur and Bogura constituencies were officially sworn into the 13th Jatiya Sangsad on Sunday in the presence of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, administered the oath to Mahmudul Haque Rubel, representing Sherpur-3, and Rezaul Karim Badsha, representing Bogura-6, during a ceremony held at the Speaker’s office in Sangsad Bhaban this noon.
Following the formal swearing-in, both lawmakers signed the oath book as per standard parliamentary procedure in a ceremony attended by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal, Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni and other senior officials including State Minister Mir Shahe Alam and Whips Miah Nuruddin Ahmad Apu and ABM Ashraf Uddin.
The vacancies for these seats arose after the general election on February 12; the Sherpur-3 poll was previously postponed due to the death of a candidate, while the Bogura-6 seat was vacated by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, who had been elected from two constituencies.
By-polls for both seats were conducted on April 9, with the Election Commission officially gazetting the winners this past Saturday. With today’s induction, the total number of sworn-in members for the current parliament has reached 298.
The remaining results for the Chattogram-2 and Chattogram-4 constituencies are currently pending official declaration due to ongoing court directives regarding candidacy disputes, which sources indicate will be resolved once the legal cases are disposed of.
