"After resigning from the BNP in 2004, BNP had made a unilateral allegation against them in indecent language. I did not get the chance to refute the complaint even from Parliament. Today, after 14 years, I am returning to Parliament. I was silent for a long time but I will not be silent more. Joining the parliament session on January 30, I will respond to the allegation,” said Mahi.

He said this while addressing a reception ceremony organized by Bikalpa Jubo Dhara as Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh won two seats in the 11th parliamentary election. The reception was held at the capital's BMA auditorium on Sunday.

Mahi said that he will inform the parliament how the BNP leaders violated the constitution, misused power and destroyed democracy.

After the BNP came to power in 2001, the founding secretary of the party, B Chowdhury, was made president of Bangladesh. Then his son Mahi B Chowdhury was elected a member of the parliament from Munshiganj-1 with the BNP ticket. After the wrath of BNP's top leadership, B Chowdhury had to resign in 2002. Then Mahi left the post of MP. Two years after the resignation, B Chowdhury formed a new party named Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh. Major (retd) Abdul Mannan, who also left BNP, was made the new party's general secretary. In the December 30 election, Bikalpa Dhara joined the Awami League-led grand alliance and Mahi B Chowdhury and Major (retd) Abdul Mannan contested the polls with boat symbol and won the election.
