Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, incidents of child rape, woman rape are being heard often. This is very outrageous deed. Those who commit this crime are enemies of the society. It needs to publicize their names and identity properly. Not the oppressed woman, who is the rapist or oppressor- their appearances need to publicize in such way that everybody looks at them with the eyes of hatred. They need to be brought out of the society.
She said these at a program of observing international women’s day at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital on Saturday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, already the government has taken measures for awarding punishment by the mobile courts. This is not only a problem for Bangladesh, it is a global problem. This problem is prevailing in the developed and civilized countries. We have to create more awareness against this.
Sheikh Hasina said, women should not be confined in homes in the name of religion. Bibi Khadiza who first accepted Islam was a businesswoman. Our beloved prophet Hazrat Mohammad (Sm) did job under her. Later they got married.
She questioned, as the first Muslim Bibi Khadiza was a businesswoman then why women of today will not be able to run business?
The premier said, though man-woman discrimination has lessened but it still is prevailing. The discrimination cannot go away by formulating laws. It needs to create awareness in the society.
She said, our women have marched forward. Women are discharging their duties as Member of Parliament, Justice, teacher, pilot, Major General, police members even in the air force. For this reason the country is marching forward.
She said, we have to be conscious so that girl child never turns a victim of discrimination. To build the society all have to work together. To turn the country into a welfare state men and women need to work together.
The Prime Minister said, women are playing successful role in different sectors including education. In the education sector women are ahead than men. Women are more attentive in all professions. But men should not stay behind. We want that men should come forward.
She also informed that father of the nation made the way for women to step forward.
About getting ‘Lifetime Contribution for Women Empowerment Award’ on the occasion of international women’s day she said, what type of honor I am provided, all are for the country. I am dedicating the honor to the mothers and sisters of the country and in the name of all oppressed women of the world.
In the program Secretary of women and children affairs ministry Kamrunnahar delivered welcome speech.
