The High Court has directed the Ministry of Information to take necessary measures to prevent the publication or broadcast of the name, photograph, or identity of rape victims.
On Tuesday (March 18), the High Court bench, consisting of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury, issued the order in response to a petition.
Additionally, the court instructed the Superintendent of Police and the Deputy Commissioner of Barguna to ensure the safety of a teenage rape survivor and her family. A social services department official has also been assigned to oversee the victim's well-being.
Earlier, on March 4, a seventh-grade girl was raped in Barguna. Following the incident, her father filed a case at Barguna Sadar Police Station against two individuals, including Sijit Roy.
On March 11, the girl's father went missing from his workplace. Later that night, around 12:15 am, his body was discovered in a bush near their home.
Following the incident, the victim’s mother filed a murder case against five to six unidentified individuals at Barguna Sadar Police Station. The family believes that the murder was premeditated.
