Eminent litterateur Rabeya Khatun passes away
Eminent litterateur of the country Rabeya Khatun passed away on Sunday evening. She breathed her last at around 6 pm due to old age ailment at her house in Gulshan in the capital. She was 86.
Rabeya Khatun emerged as a writer in early 50s when women of this region were captive in enforced guidance. President Md. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep sorrow over the death and also expressed condolence to the bereaved family members.
Rabeya Khatun was born on December 27 in 1935 at her maternal uncle’s home in Bikrampur. Her paternal home situated at Shologhar village under Shrinagar upazila in Munshiganj district. On July 23, 1952 she married Fazlul Haque (1930-1990). He was the editor of the ‘Cinema’ magazine. He directed ‘President’ the first film for children in Bangladesh.
Rabeya Khatun was awarded Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1973, Ekushey Padak in 1993 and Independence Day Award in 2017 by the government of Bangladesh.
She left behind four children- Faridur Reza Sagor, Keka Ferdousi, Farhadur Reza Probal and Farhana Kakoli.
