Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the Interim Government, has arrived in Rome, Italy, to attend the funeral of Pope Francis.
He landed in Rome on Friday evening, Bangladesh time (April 25).
Before his arrival, Dr Yunus departed from Doha, Qatar, at 12:25 pm Bangladesh time, heading to Rome. He was bid farewell by Qatar's Protocol Chief, Ibrahim bin Yusuf Abdullah Fakhru, at Hamad International Airport in Doha.
Reports indicate that shortly after he arrives in Italy, the Chief Advisor will visit St Peter's Square to pay his respects to the late Pope's body. He will also participate in the funeral ceremony of Pope Francis on Saturday, April 26.
According to the Chief Advisor's Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam, there are no other meetings scheduled for the Chief Advisor during his visit. He is expected to return to Bangladesh on Sunday, April 27.
It is worth noting that Pope Francis passed away on Monday at the Vatican, at the age of 88, after serving as the leader of the Roman Catholic Church for 12 years.
