Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the interim government, visited the Bangladesh Embassy, commonly known as Bangladesh House in Rome, during his current visit to Italy. Dr Yunus is in the country to pay his respects to the late Pope Francis.
Upon his arrival in Rome on Friday, April 25 (local time), he was received by the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Italy and the Vatican City.
The Chief Advisor's Press Wing shared this information with the media on Friday.
According to reports, Pope Francis's funeral will be held on Saturday, April 26. Ahead of the ceremony, the late Pope's body has been laid in state for the public to offer their final respects.
Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumdar stated that Pope Francis held deep admiration for Dr Yunus' work, particularly his commitment to uplifting marginalised communities and promoting his visionary "Three Zero" philosophy—zero poverty, zero unemployment, and zero carbon emissions.
He further noted that the Vatican City had jointly launched the "Three Zero Initiative" in Rome in partnership with Dr Yunus. This is a key element of the Nobel Laureate's forward-thinking mission.
Dr Yunus is scheduled to attend the funeral service at 9:30 am local time on Saturday. He is expected to depart for Bangladesh at 12 pm (Bangladesh time) on Sunday and arrive back in the country early Monday morning.
