Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has stated that in the world we live in, not preparing for war is suicidal. He made these remarks on Wednesday at the annual exercise of the Air Force in Dhaka. The Chief Advisor also mentioned that the government's efforts to build a modern and up-to-date air force to protect the country's independence and sovereignty will continue.
Dr. Yunus said, "Like many others, I am an anti-war person. I do not wish for war in the world. Sometimes, war preparations lead to war. Therefore, I have strong objections to war preparations as well. But in the world we live in, the threat of war constantly surrounds us. In such a situation, not being prepared becomes impossible."
As an example, he said, "Right near us, there is a situation where a war between India and Pakistan could start. I saw in the morning news, although it might be a rumor, that the war might start today."
"Therefore, in this situation, not preparing for war is suicidal. When it comes to preparation, there is no room for half-hearted measures. This is a situation where victory is the only option. Defeat cannot be an option here. So, we must always strive to take our preparations to the highest possible level," he added.
Mentioning that war is a costly affair, the chief Advisor said, "Our economy is in a weak state. Bangladesh has not yet developed into a strong economy. Moreover, due to the arbitrariness of the previous government, whatever we had has been looted. In this situation, we need to set our overall strategy. We must always extend a hand towards peace. But we must also be prepared."
Expressing his satisfaction after witnessing the Air Force exercise, he said, "We usually see these in movies. We don't often get the opportunity to see them in reality. Today, thanks to you, we saw it in reality."
In his assessment of the overall preparedness, Dr. Yunus said, "It increases our courage. Not just the courage for war, but seeing our own children take such excellent preparations and be able to face difficult problems fills our hearts with pride."
