Dr Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the interim government, will leave for Japan on the night of May 27 for a four-day official visit. During the trip, Bangladesh and Japan are expected to sign seven Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). The delegation will also seek $1 billion in budgetary assistance from Japan.
The information was shared by Acting Foreign Secretary Ruhul Alam Siddiqui at a press conference hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday (May 26).
He stated that Dr Yunus will travel to Tokyo late on May 27. As part of the visit, the Chief Advisor will attend the "Future of Asia" conference organised by the Nikkei Forum. He is also scheduled to meet with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba for a bilateral discussion on May 30.
Dr Yunus is expected to return to Dhaka on May 31.
