A significant portion of Bangladesh's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) comes from the SME sector. This sector also plays a crucial role in creating new employment opportunities.

He made these remarks in a message issued on Sunday (June 8) in observance of 'World Accreditation Day 2025'.

Dr. Muhammad Yunus highlighted that SME institutions constantly face challenges such as barriers to entry into international markets, changing demands from buyers and consumers, and financial limitations. He emphasized the need for concerted global efforts to overcome these challenges.

He further added that the current interim government, formed through the July mass uprising, is very sincere about the development of medium and small industries in the country.

To achieve the desired growth in this sector, along with sustainable industrialization, trade, and investment promotion, the Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB) and all relevant stakeholders must continue to play a positive role.

He extended his sincere greetings to all stakeholders and partner organizations of the Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB) on this occasion.

He believes that this year's theme, 'Accreditation: Empowering Small and Medium Enterprises (SME)', is highly relevant in the current global context.

He explained that the accreditation system plays a vital role in addressing these challenges by ensuring quality at all stages of the product and service supply chain through the development of national quality infrastructure.

It also facilitates the creation of skilled technical manpower, removes technical barriers to trade, and opens doors to international markets.

The statement also noted that since its inception, BAB has worked towards this goal, issuing accreditation certificates to a total of 155 government, private, and multinational organizations, including various laboratories, diagnostic centers, certification bodies, and inspection agencies, in accordance with international standards.

Finally, Dr. Muhammad Yunus wished success for all programs undertaken to mark the day.
