The Election Commission (EC) has officially resumed National Identity Card (NID) correction services after a two-month suspension. The service was restored on Sunday afternoon (January 25).

A.S.M. Humayun Kabir, Director General of the NID Wing, explained that the activities were temporarily halted to facilitate the registration for postal ballots and the finalization of candidate lists.

Following the completion of voter list updates and other essential technical work, the correction service has been reactivated as part of regular operations.

Key Reasons for the Suspension
According to Director General Kabir, the suspension was necessary due to critical updates involving:

  • OCV (Out-of-Country Voting): Finalizing systems for expatriate voting.
  • IPCV (In-Country Postal Voting): Managing the registration process for domestic postal ballots.
  • Candidate Security: Preventing unauthorized changes to identity data once the candidate lists for the national election were being finalized.

The Election Commission had initially suspended all NID corrections on November 24 last year as a preemptive measure to prevent the provision of false information or attempts to manipulate data ahead of the national polls.

With the issuance of this new directive, the service is once again open to the general public.
