Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has issued a stern warning to law enforcement agencies regarding neutrality during the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election and the national referendum.
Speaking as the chief guest at the "Bangladesh Coast Guard Medal Award" ceremony held at the Coast Guard Headquarters in Agargaon on Tuesday (February 3), the Adviser emphasized that any involvement in political agendas would be met with severe consequences.
"If any member of the Coast Guard or other law enforcement agencies is found to be involved with any individual, party, or political agenda, strict departmental and legal action will be taken against them," he stated.
Zero Tolerance for Partiality
The Home Adviser clarified that the government will show "not a shred of leniency" regarding the neutrality of forces during the elections scheduled for February 12.
To ensure a free, fair, and peaceful voting process, a massive security apparatus has been deployed:
- Total Personnel: Approximately 900,000 law enforcement members are being deployed nationwide.
- Coast Guard Contribution: 3,585 Coast Guard members are part of this force.
- Initial Deployment: 100 platoons have already been stationed across various districts in the Barishal, Chattogram, and Khulna divisions.
Recognition of Service and Anti-Corruption Stance
During the event, the Home Adviser praised the Coast Guard for its bravery in combating human trafficking, piracy, and drug smuggling, as well as its humanitarian efforts during natural disasters and the Rohingya crisis.
He noted that international partners like the US and Australia have expressed interest in joint collaborations due to the force's efficiency.
Furthermore, he addressed the issue of systemic integrity, labeling corruption as the "greatest enemy of the state" that erodes public trust and institutional strength.
The ceremony concluded with the awarding of medals to 40 Coast Guard members for their outstanding service. Senior Secretary of the Ministry Nasimul Gani and Coast Guard Director General Rear Admiral Md. Ziaul Haque were also in attendance.
