In a major move to digitize energy distribution and reduce long queues, the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) has expanded its QR code-based mobile application, "Fuel Pass."

Starting today, Sunday (April 12), motorcycle riders can collect petrol and octane exclusively through this app at seven designated filling stations in the capital.

The initiative, launched by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, aims to automate the fueling process and link it directly with the BRTA central database to ensure transparency.

Participating Filling Stations in Dhaka
Previously running as a pilot at two locations, five additional pumps were added to the network on Saturday. The service is now available at:

  • Trust Filling Station (Tejgaon)
  • Sonar Bangla Filling Station (Asadgate)
  • Talukdar Filling Station (Asadgate)
  • Gulshan Service Station (Mohakhali)
  • Meghna Model Pump (Shahbagh)
  • Nikunja Model Service Center (Nikunja)
  • Khalek Service Station (Kalyanpur)

How the System Works
The "Fuel Pass" system is designed to eliminate manual delays and prevent hoarding.

Registration: Users must download the "Fuel Pass" app from the Google Play Store. Registration requires a phone number, NID, vehicle registration number, blue book/smart card, driving license, and a passport-sized photo.

Non-Smartphone Users: Those without smartphones can register via the official website, download the QR code, and carry a printed copy.

Verification: Station operators will scan the QR code to verify the vehicle's pre-allocated fuel quota before dispensing oil.

Addressing Artificial Crises
The Energy and Mineral Resources Division noted that despite sufficient stocks, manual distribution often leads to long lines and "double-dipping," where individuals collect more fuel than necessary.

"This digital system will provide real-time monitoring through a central dashboard, allowing national-level tracking of supply and distribution. It will increase transparency, reduce waste, and allow for effective management during potential energy shortages," the department stated.

While currently restricted to motorcycles at these seven stations, the government plans to phase in the "Fuel Pass" for all vehicle types across the entire country.
