Prime Minister Tarique Rahman stated that there is no alternative to sports in developing a healthy, robust, and meritorious generation.
He expressed his belief that engaging in sports is the most effective way to protect today's youth from drug addiction, social degradation, and excessive device dependency.
The Prime Minister made these remarks in a message issued Friday (May 1) ahead of the launch of "Noton Kuri Sports" on Saturday (May 2).
Prime Minister Rahman noted that "Noton Kuri Sports" aims to instill discipline, brotherhood, leadership, and a sense of teamwork among children and adolescents—qualities he described as the foundation for building an ideal and strong nation.
Sports as a Dignified Profession
Highlighting the government's commitment to athletes, the Prime Minister emphasized that sports should no longer be viewed merely as entertainment or leisure exercise.
"Our clear promise to the people was to establish sports as a prestigious profession and ensure economic security for players," he said. "The government has already begun implementing this commitment so that talented young athletes do not face financial uncertainty and can pursue sports as a career without hesitation."
To support this vision, the government has initiated several measures:
- State Sports Scholarships: Financial support for selected talented players.
- World-Class Training: Advanced coaching and modern facilities through the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP).
- Talent Scouting: The launch of "Noton Kuri Sports" to identify hidden talent among children aged 12 to 14 across the country.
A Legacy of Talent Discovery
The Prime Minister drew inspiration from the historical "Noton Kuri" program, which was traditionally known for flourishing children's talents in various fields. He explained that this new sporting initiative is a specialized effort by the current government to organize and elevate the country’s sports arena from the grassroots level.
"If our plan succeeds, these young stars will not only shine nationally but will also raise the red-and-green flag of Bangladesh higher in the international arena," the Prime Minister added.
Concluding his message, Prime Minister Rahman expressed his appreciation for the Ministry of Youth and Sports' initiative and voiced his confidence that "Noton Kuri Sports" would bring a sustainable and groundbreaking transformation to the nation's sporting landscape.
