Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to arrive in Sylhet today, Saturday (May 2), marking his first official visit to the city since taking office. Extensive preparations are underway across the city, supported by a rigorous security blanket.
According to the official itinerary, the Prime Minister will arrive at Sylhet Osmani International Airport at 10:00 AM. His visit will begin with a pilgrimage to the Shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (R.) at 10:30 AM.
Infrastructure and Sports Initiatives
The Prime Minister’s schedule includes several key project inaugurations aimed at regional development:
- 11:00 AM: Inauguration of the Sylhet City Corporation’s waterlogging mitigation project at Chandnighat.
- 12:00 PM: Launch of the Basia Canal excavation work in Kandigaon, Sadar Upazila.
- 3:00 PM: Formal inauguration of "Noton Kuri Sports-2026" at the District Stadium.
Later in the day, at 5:00 PM, he is expected to attend a party meeting at the District Shilpakala Academy before returning to Dhaka at 7:00 PM.
City-Wide Preparations and Security
Sylhet has undergone a significant facelift in anticipation of the visit. Authorities have intensified road repairs, cleaning drives, and beautification projects, particularly along the route from the airport to the Circuit House.
The District Administration, Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP), and the City Corporation are working in coordination to ensure the visit proceeds smoothly.
