The body of Jamil Ahmed Limon, a Bangladeshi PhD student who was tragically murdered in Florida, arrived in Dhaka on Monday (May 4).
An Emirates Airlines flight carrying his remains landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:47 AM.
Background of the Incident
Limon and another Bangladeshi PhD student, Nahida Sultana Brishti—both students at the University of South Florida—were reported missing on April 16.
Following an extensive search, police recovered Limon’s body on April 24. Brishti’s remains were identified on April 30 following several days of forensic examinations.
Limon was pursuing a PhD in Geography, Environmental Science, and Policy, while Brishti was a student of Chemical Engineering.
Legal Proceedings and Suspect in Custody
Police have arrested Limon’s roommate, Hisham Abugherhe, in connection with the double homicide.
Court documents filed in Hillsborough County on Sunday (April 26) reveal that Limon was killed with multiple blows from a sharp weapon. Abugherhe now faces two counts of first-degree premeditated murder.
Repatriation of Nahida Sultana Brishti
Plans are underway to repatriate the remains of the second victim, Nahida Sultana Brishti. Her funeral prayer (Janaza) is scheduled to be held in the US after Zuhr prayer this Wednesday (May 6), after which the process of sending her body back to Bangladesh will begin.
Golam Mortuza, Press Minister at the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, confirmed that the victim’s family has requested the swift return of her remains.
The Bangladesh Embassy in Washington D.C. and the Bangladesh Consulate in Miami are working jointly to facilitate the process.
