The government has issued directives to install solar panels on the rooftops of all government offices as part of a strategic plan to generate 5,000 megawatts (MW) of solar power within the next five years.
The announcement was made by Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources, following a working session at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Tuesday.
Nationwide Implementation
The Minister stated that District Commissioners (DCs) have been instructed to ensure that solar panels are installed on the rooftops of every district and departmental office across the country to meet the 5,000 MW target.
"The Cabinet Division has already provided the necessary funding to the DCs," the Minister confirmed. "We have requested them to complete the installations within the next two to three months."
Minister Tuku emphasized that these measures would lead to significant energy savings once the projects are operational. The directive was highlighted during the ongoing DC Conference, where the current state of the nation's power and energy sector was discussed.
Collaborative Efforts
Addressing the administrators, the Minister acknowledged the "proactive role" played by District Commissioners in resolving a recent "artificial energy crisis."
"We have overcome that situation through their cooperation, and I have thanked them for their support. I have also briefed them on the current energy landscape and reiterated that their continued assistance is vital for future energy security," he added.
