The first budget session of the 13th National Parliament is scheduled to commence today, Sunday (June 7). This will mark the first budget session of parliament since the formation of the new Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)-led government following the national elections.

The session, which constitutes the second session of the 13th parliament, will begin at 3:00 PM today at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

According to parliamentary sources, Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury is expected to place the proposed national budget for the 2026–27 fiscal year in parliament on June 11.

Consequently, intense political, economic, and public interest is currently centered on the parliamentary session surrounding the upcoming fiscal blueprint.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin summoned the session on May 7, exercising the powers conferred upon him by Article 72, Clause (1) of the Constitution.

Earlier, the maiden session of the 13th National Parliament concluded on April 30. A total of 94 bills were passed during that session, which spanned 25 working days.

The budget session beginning today is scheduled to hold extensive deliberations on the income and expenditure plans for the 2026–27 fiscal year, macroeconomic policies, and various crucial national issues.

Given that this is the first budget of the newly formed government, the session is being viewed with significant importance.
