Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman departed Dhaka this morning, Sunday (June 7), for a three-day official visit to Russia.
The Information Officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Md. Kamrul Islam Bhuiyan, confirmed that the Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Adviser, Humayun Kabir, is accompanying the Foreign Minister on this trip. The delegation is scheduled to return home on June 9.
According to ministry sources, Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman will hold a bilateral meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow. The discussions will center on further strengthening and expanding bilateral relations between Dhaka and Moscow.
This marks the first official visit to Russia by both the Foreign Minister and the Foreign Affairs Adviser under the newly formed government.
Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement reaffirming its commitment to continuing constructive and fruitful cooperation with Khalilur Rahman, noting that this visit from June 7 to 9 is part of that ongoing engagement.
The Russian statement further highlighted that the two sides will engage in discussions on a wide range of international issues, particularly in the context of the upcoming 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Describing Khalilur Rahman as an experienced diplomat and a pragmatic figure well-versed in global affairs, Moscow noted that his perspective will play a vital role in addressing the contemporary challenges faced by multilateral institutions.
