Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) employees, who were directly recruited through an open process, have threatened to halt metro rail operations if a comprehensive employment policy is not established within the next three working days. This warning was issued in a press release sent to the media on Monday (February 17).
According to the press release, DMTCL's permanent officers and employees have been demanding a structured employment policy. In response, senior DMTCL officials held discussions on the draft policy and assured that it would be finalized through a board meeting after necessary revisions.
Previously, on September 12, an advisor from the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges directed the formulation of a comprehensive employment policy. However, despite five months passing, no progress has been made for unknown reasons. As a result, over 200 skilled local and foreign employees have resigned, putting metro rail operations and maintenance at risk.
The press release further warned that if the employment policy is not finalized by February 20, metro rail services will be suspended from February 21. If Dhaka residents face disruptions, DMTCL authorities will bear full responsibility.
