Four people, including two schoolchildren, were killed in separate lightning strikes in Cumilla on Monday (April 28). Another person was injured and is currently receiving treatment at Cumilla Medical College Hospital.
The fatalities occurred in two separate incidents in Borura and Muradnagar upazilas. Officers-in-Charge Kazi Nazmul Haque of Borura Police Station and Mahfuzur Rahman of Bangra Bazar Police Station confirmed the incidents.
According to police reports, two farmers were struck and killed by lightning while working in the fields of Korbanpur village in Muradnagar upazila around 10:30 am. The victims were identified as Nikhil Debnath and Jewel Bhuiyan from nearby Deora village.
Later, around 12:30 pm, two children died in another lightning strike at Haripur Payalguchcha village in Borura upazila. The deceased were identified as Forhad Hossain (12) and Saimon Hossain (12).
Local witnesses said the two boys had gone to a field to fly kites when the lightning struck. They were severely injured and rushed to Borura Upazila Health Complex, where doctors pronounced them dead.
